For a true getaway

About Dargo & Surrounds

Set deep within the Victorian High Country lies the uniquely authentic township of Dargo. Originally established in the nineteenth century as a stopover for the itinerant ‘prospectors’ with a quest to find their fortune. Over time it evolved to be recognised for cattle breeding. In fact, you wouldn’t be questioned if you believed the Man from Snowy River was borne from the lifestyle of Dargo.

The drive to Dargo itself offers breathtaking panoramic views of rolling hinterland and wondrous native flora and fauna with a sealed road right to the Walnut retreats doorstep

Keep an eye out for the elusive lyrebird with its splendidly brilliant tail which is known internationally for its unique qualities. The hillsides are often frequented by groups of animals, and you’ll be privy to spotting native wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, emu and wombats. The array of bird life is also fascinating with wedgetail eagles soaring above and the laughter of kookaburras echoing in the valley.

The pristine rivers which flow through the heart of the town, is a playground for platypus, trout, goanna, and water-dragon and is only 100 meter from the retreats gate

Dargo is a playground for any outdoor enthusiast looking to experience an atmosphere full of tranquillity, adventure and fun.
